“A WORLD IS REVEALED TO ME IN EVERY DRAWING.”

The graphic vocabulary of Bettina Krieg (b. 1981 in Würzburg, lives and works in Berlin) is made up of fine, monochrome lines, repeatedly rearranged by the artist in large-format compositions. Through her reductions, Krieg’s drawings appear ascetic and their spiritual pull follows such greats as Hilma Af Klint or Agnes Martin. The artist leaves open to interpretation whether microscopic processes are depicted or the detail view is impeded in favor of a large whole.

In combination with the unusually large paper formats, the process of drawing becomes a genuine physical act: once the artist has isolated a particular movement, she repeats it into sheer endlessness – often lying down physically to be able to fill the paper completely.

This monograph summarizes seven years of Krieg‘s artistic creation. The book contains a text written by Julia Voss, as well as an interview conducted by Phillipp Felsch.

TIDSSKRIFT FOR DEN NORSKE LEGEFORENING

Ketil Slagstad: "In the current issue of Tidsskrift for Den norske legeforening which is now online, we present a study where the researchers conducted 61 in-depth interviews with bereaved next of kin of young men who had committed suicide. The bereaved perceived the generally accepted assumption that suicide is attributable to mental illness as an obstacle to identifying suicide risk. Most of the bereaved saw no signs of mental illness before the suicide. The suicide crisis was associated with relational factors.

Thus, the authors challenge the current prevention model for suicide. Mental illness is not a sufficient nor necessary factor to explain suicide.

Finding an artist who could illustrate the cover page was not easy. The topic is sensitive, and it was important for us not to succumb to clichés. However, when we saw Bettina Kriegs work, we knew she would be perfect for the job. Bettina is a Berlin-based artist who has been working on topics like life, power, control and loss of control. As she told us: "Where there is light, there is shadow. When you look at the drawing, you don´t know where it begins and where it ends."

Bettina is just a wonderful person and an amazing artist."

FUKT Magazine #16 – The Sex Issue 2017/2018

The new issue features 23 artistic positions focusing on erotic contemporary drawing. FUKT #16 is presenting a broad range of different techniques and expressions: from Martin Skauen’s humoristic and explicit cartoons to Bettina Krieg’s abstract line drawings, we show a spectra of different perspectives. Some are more or less self-experienced like Ulli Lust’s comic reportage from a Berlin fetish club and Audrey Jones drawings of text message dialogues with guys she met through the app Tinder. In Paul Davis’ drawings the genitals are erased, where they should be it’s just a void, leaving space for fantasy. Enjoy!

25th Anniversary Kunstvereniging Diepenheim | 2015

This summer Kunstvereniging Diepenheim celebrated its 25th anniversary. From 27 June to 5 September new works on paper of more than 160 artists were shown in Drawing Centre Diepenheim. All artists who participated in exhibitions in the past few years have been asked to make a new work (book size) for this jubilee exhibition. Thanks to the very high response of the artists more than 160 unique drawings and collages were on display.

In the book all works are reproduced in facsimile. Peggie Breitbarth, Jet van der Sluis and others have written especially for this book. The texts will examine the history of the Kunstvereniging in detail. In addition, there are text passages by curators, employees, volunteers and ex-exhibitors.
