Nach dem furiosen Auftakt am letzten Samstag geht die Direkte Auktion in die nächste Runde. Die Kurator*innen Bettina Semmer, Fares Al-Hassan, Holm Friebe, Stephanie Neumann, Martin Kwade, Christian Maertins und Delia Keller zeigen insgesamt 147 Positionen zeitgenössischer Kunst im

Chapter 2.

Über 700 Lose konnten dafür von Galerien wie Alexander Levy, Nagel Draxler, McLaughlin, Kanya Kage, Kwadrat, Laura Mars, Galerie Burster, Michaela Helfrich und Eigen + Art Lab zusammengetragen werden. Unter den Kunstwerken, die unter den Hammer kommen, sind unter anderem Arbeiten von Thomas Ruff, Jenny Holzer, Bettina Krieg, Keren Cytter, Nadine Fecht, Erich Heckel, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Anna Fasshauer und Elvira Bach. Als Kooperationspartner ist das traditionsreiche Auktionshaus Ostdeutsche Kunstauktionen von Raik Hellwich mit dabei.

INTERVIEW - 20 MIN WITH BETTINA KRIEG BY NELE TÜCH

Der Lockdown hat nicht nur große Auswirkungen auf die Gastro- oder Tourismusszene, besonders hat er auch den Kulturbereich getroffen – ob Museen, Theater, Konzertsäle; ob Künstler*innen, Schauspieler*innen, Musiker*innen. Als Rettungsmaßnahme wurde der Kulturbetrieb ans digitale Zeitalter angepasst. Was aber, wenn Emotionen online nicht vermittelbar sind? Was wenn ein Foto einer deckenhohen Leinwand auf einem 13 Zoll Screen gezeigt wird? Und was wenn Werke von ihrer Beschaffenheit bestimmt werden?

Bettina Krieg hat einen Weg gefunden ihre abgesagte Solo Ausstellung so nah wie möglich an die Menschen zu bringen. Mit ihrem Projekt "Lockdown Diaries – Exhibition in a Box" kommen ihre Zeichnungen zu uns nach Hause. Die limitierte Edition enthält drei original Kunstdrucke, einen Katalog, ein Interview mit der Kunsthistorikerin Julia Rosenbaum, Portrait- und Studiobilder von Timmy Hargesheimer (s. Bilder), einen QR-Code für eine Augmented Reality Experience, acht Postkarten und eine persönliche Botschaft. Mit diesem Set hat es die Künstlerin geschafft auch in Lockdown-Zeiten immersiv, relevant und vor allem greifbar zu sein.

Bettina Krieg ist die Berliner Künstlerin, die ihre Arbeiten wie Strömungen aussehen lässt. Wir denken an Wind, an Luft, an Wasser und an Schallwellen. Ihre Zeichnungen wirken wie die unsichtbaren Bewegungen der Elemente. Als Künstlerin hat sie schon immer die Struktur der Dinge interessiert und so angefangen ein Foto-Archiv aufzubauen, Impressionen zu sammeln und detailliert-abstrakte Studien anzufertigen. In ihrem Stil ist sich Bettina treu geblieben, verändert hat er sich trotzdem. Ihre aktuellen Arbeiten fühlen sich freier und intuitiver an, als ihre künstlerischen Anfänge. Wir haben mit ihr über die Entwicklung ihrer Bildsprache, über das Zugänglichkeitsproblem der Kunstbranche, und über Lockdown Rituale gesprochen.

EXHIBITION IN A BOX | LOCKDOWN DIARIES - BOOK RELEASE & LIMITED EDITION

"LOCKDOWN DIARIES SERIES - EXHIBITION IN A BOX" is a very personal project for me that has come out of this past year. After I had to postpone my solo exhibition, which was due to take place in March 2021, I didn't want to do another merely virtual one, and so the idea for the "Exhibition in a Box" came to me.

With this box I would like to send you a glimpse of my artistic work from this special time. For me, it is a symbol of a transitional period. Though the daily ritual of the diary drawings has given me a lot of joy and support, I am happy that we can hopefully soon return to the beautiful things in our lives.

 The works that you will receive in this limited edition, you can not only hold in your hands, but also experience as objects of augmented reality.

“A WORLD IS REVEALED TO ME IN EVERY DRAWING.”

The graphic vocabulary of Bettina Krieg (b. 1981 in Würzburg, lives and works in Berlin) is made up of fine, monochrome lines, repeatedly rearranged by the artist in large-format compositions. Through her reductions, Krieg’s drawings appear ascetic and their spiritual pull follows such greats as Hilma Af Klint or Agnes Martin. The artist leaves open to interpretation whether microscopic processes are depicted or the detail view is impeded in favor of a large whole.

In combination with the unusually large paper formats, the process of drawing becomes a genuine physical act: once the artist has isolated a particular movement, she repeats it into sheer endlessness – often lying down physically to be able to fill the paper completely.

This monograph summarizes seven years of Krieg‘s artistic creation. The book contains studio portraits by Esra Rotthoff, a text written by Julia Voss, as well as an interview conducted by Phillipp Felsch.

What Goes Around Comes Around // a charitable art exhibition →

Come and join us on 2. August for the re-opening of Studiolo Berlin at Aufbau Haus am Moritzplatz. The one-night-only charitable art exhibition "What Goes Around Comes Around" will benefit a good cause. All sales go entirely to the non-profit association "One Happy Family", which has the goal to help refugees and lead and operate the community center of the same name on the Greek island of Lesvos. All works of art will be sold for 100 Euro each only.

In line with AXS ART and Art Tours Berlin’s wider goal to make the Berlin art scene and art market more accessible to new audiences, EDITION 1.0 aims to showcase work by Berlin’s most promising emerging artists to the city’s art lovers and starting collectors. The weekend will be filled with artist talks, panel discussions, art tours, performances and drinks.
